Life in cuba...before the revolution
Cuba was a capitalist island nation, with close economic ties to the United States, but there was a dark side to life on this Caribbean island. Cuba was being ruled by the dictator Batista who allowed American gangsters open access to the Cuban economy. In addition, centuries of racial tensions left many Cubans segregated and ignored by the government. Wealthy sugar plantation owners and American businesses enjoyed the Cuban high life, but others were left angry, frustrated, and ready for a revolution.
